Long-distance move from Edgewater, NJ to Tampa, FL

Unfortunate experience of hiring Adam Van Lines

I had the unfortunate experience of hiring Adam Van Lines for my move from NJ to FL. At the time of first talking with their agent I was told since my apartment community in FL does not allow trucks bigger than 26 ft I will need a shuttle. I paid $450 for the shuttle. I was told by the agent that if they ship my stuff in a smaller truck they will refund my $450 fee. The movers did use a smaller truck and now Adam Van Lines is refusing to refund me my $450 fee. I was even told during my last talk with their agent that I should even pay for extra storage if in case I need it for any last minute changes and if in case I dont end up using it they will refund me the money. I have not received a refund for it so far (its been more than 2 months).

The movers Adam Van Lines contracted with in NJ dropped several boxes in front of my wife. During delivery time i was told they will give me a heads up of 3 days but I was given heads up of 30 minutes. I had to rush back from work for the move. After delivery when we opened our boxes (which were in terrible shape) there were multiple items broken for which we put a claim but have not heard back on it either. I hope my experience helps you in deciding if you should work with Adam Van Lines for your next move or go with another moving company.

Official company response

Please note that Adams Van Lines was the customer`s booking agent. The customer`s contract and move were both done by and with Coast to Coast Moving, who is not us. Adams Van Lines does not charge shutte fees, neither would a shuttle fee or any part of it ever go to Adams Van Lines. This review is referring to the customer`s moving company, not Adams Van Lines. The shuttle fee that the customer is referring to was also charged by and went to the customer`s moving company, not Adams Van Lines. Lastly, upon reading this review in which the customer is stating that their moving company has not assisted them with their claim yet, Adams Van Lines has attempted to reach the customer numerous times both by phone and email, offering to assist the customer with their claim ourselves as a courtesy from us. However unfortunately, the customer does not answer or reply. We do not understand why this review is being written against Adams Van Lines, as we are not the company being referred to in the review, and from what the customer is stating, it seems we are the only ones trying to reach the customer to help, but the customer is ignoring us. It is very unfortunate. Consequently this review has been reported. We are still here to assist whenever the customer is able to get back to us.

Highly recommended

I had to move from Florida to California, and I was super stressed about the whole process. A friend recommended this company, and I’m so glad they did. The team arrived on time, and they were very professional and friendly. They carefully packed and moved all of my belongings, and they made sure to take extra precautions with fragile items. Highly recommended for long-distance moves!

Long-distance move from Omaha, NE to Alexandria, VA

Horrible experience

This company is a scam and should be shut down.

They gave me 2 different quotes (one included my couch, one did not). It was a $300 difference without it. When they came to pick up my stuff I decided to not take the couch and a couple other misc things. They charged me for it anyway. On the invoice upon pick up the total was $2607.13. I paid $1082.21. They said I owed $1998.64. That math ain't mathin. I called them to explain this and they said the total goes by what the total was on my previous invoice? They said I had to pay the $1998.64 regardless or they wouldn't deliver my stuff.

I asked to speak to someone about how my invoice was incorrect. They gave me a phone number to call and they answered and I said "Hi I'm trying to talk to someone about my invoice." They said "Invoice? Is this Christine?" I said, "yes they told me to call you about my invoice." They said, "Uh invoice? Idk. You have the wrong number" and hung up the phone. But he knew my name?

I call back the guy back who gave me the number and tell him its not correct but they guy knew my name and he gave me a different number. That number was the number of the driver I've been talking to this whole time about my delivery. The driver who told me to call Adam Van Lines about my invoice. Therefore taking me in a circle just to [EDIT] with me I assume.

I sent emails with the invoice I received and no one could help me understand why the math was incorrect or why I was paying extra for things I didn't end up taking. They said I would have to pay and could file a claim later and that I should have told them on delivery that things had changed. The guys picking up my stuff didn't tell me this when I said not to take items. They just said ok.

I was moving from Nebraska to Virginia. No one notified me where they were in transit. I just got a call that they had arrived. I was not in Virginia yet. They told me they could send me the invoice via email and I could print it and sign it. I explained I don't have a printer and there was a big winter storm that just came through and it was not safe to drive. I asked if they could send it via docusign. He said no. They told me I could send payment via Zelle and I could have a friend sign off on the delivery. I had never used Zelle before and was not aware there were limits on how much you can pay per day. They never told me this either. I was only able to pay half and asked if I could pay him the rest via venmo or cashapp. He said no and refused to unload the truck before getting full payment. He said I would have to pay by card. I asked if he could refund me the $50 fee he was going to charge me as I did not plan on paying by card. He said no.

When they finally charged my car, they over charged me $575. I called to explain and he said he would refund it. No apologies. No time frame of when they would refund it. An hour went by and it was still not refunded and I had to call again. He finally refunded it.

My friend send me the invoice upon delivery. They WHITED OUT the total amount to an increased amount - $3081.15. I was also missing a piece of my bed frame and am not able to use it at all because it's the bottom piece. I called customer service to file a claim. They directed me to a different department. That department sent me an email. I explained everything by email and they said "Thank you for providing us with this insight on your move, and our apologies that you were not happy with your experience. Unfortunately, the Claims company is unable to dispute a charge signed for on your contract with Shield Moving. This type of dispute would be filed with Shield and their Claims Department per their contract. We are happy to assist you with the missing bed frame piece if you would like us to submit the claim for this for you? Just let us know."

Interesting that an Adam Van Lines employee told me to file a claim with them. Not Shield Moving. When I contacted Shield Moving, they told me to contact Adam Van Lines. I sent screenshotted emails of what Adams Van Lines said to me about Shield Moving. Ghosted. I sent screenshotted emails to Adam Van Lines about what Sheild Moving said. And Adam Van Lines employee sent me an email for dropbox that had Sheild Moving's name on it. The document said they would give me a whole $42 for my missing piece of my bed frame and that I would agree to take down any negative reviews. For $42 yall.

What they fail to mention to you up front (although they tell you later when they seemingly can't help you with anything) is that they're not actually a moving company. They're a broker who hires cheap labor movers to do the job for them. And when things go wrong, they just blame the movers and take no responsibility.

Long-distance move from Yuba City, CA to Schertz, TX

Nightmare experience

The absolute WORST moving company in America .Save yourself a lot of money and stress and find someone else to move you. It took over 3 weeks to receive our household goods on a move from California to Texas . None of the boxes were labeled. There was no rhyme or reason to how things were packed. There was only 2 guys to pack up my house and only one did most of the packing. The other guy was constantly taking smoke breaks and talking on his phone. Then he took over 8 hours to pack a small kitchen then left for 2 hours to pick up five more boxes. Then of course they changed the cost of the move. I started at 7800 and ended at over 14 k . A lot of our things that were supposed to be packed up were left. The movers got to my home at 8:30 am and didn’t leave until almost 5 am the next day. Then when it came time to deliver our things I started getting the run around. It was always someone else’s department. No one gave a direct answer about anything. So of course when it was time for delivery all they talked about was making sure we had cash to pay them. I am a military veteran with lots of moves under my belt. This by far was the most frustrating moving experience ever. We are finding that things are missing.. ie tv’s ,screws for furniture, power cords and the list goes on. They obviously don’t vet the sub contractors that they use and will deny all plausibility of all the complaints they have received from other customers but hopefully other people will see all the bad reviews and find other movers and not deal with the headache named Adams Van Lines. Please heed my advice. DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY . I would rate them as a negative zero if it was at all possible!

Long-distance move from Oklahoma City, OK to Lafayette, IN

!! UNAUTHORIZED CREDIT CARD CHARGE/ OVERCHARGED/ LACK OF TRANSPARENCY/

My experience with Adam's Van Lines has been nothing short of a nightmare!

** UNAUTHORIZED CHARGE: First, THE most important thing you need to know: I had an unauthorized charge of $148.70 appear on my credit card after I had already authorized the initial $859.54 payment as a deposit. There was no explanation, no receipt, no form, no acknowledgment, and ZERO communication about what this extra charge was for. NONE WHATSOEVER. THE SAME PAYEE WHO CHARGED ME 859.54 WHEN PAYING THE DEPOSIT AND SIGNING WITH ADAM'S VAN LINES ALSO CHARGED ME 148.70. So, Adam's Van Lines, if you're reading this, you can't come here and say this wasn't on you!!!!! **

Now to start, the agent from Adam’s Van Lines (Raymond Zoufal-Burneo) gave me an initial move estimate of 2099 $, which ultimately ended up being 2914.31 for me! Now, I know they may come and argue that Adam’s Van Lines is not responsible for additional charges that may arise beyond the estimate. If that’s the case, then why do you give the customer a wrong estimate to begin with??? In the initial estimate, my items were 312 cu.ft, which was changed to 330 cu.ft by Cita Van Lines because of a few small items. You’re not saying 18 additional cu.ft would have probably cost 800$ dollars more, right??

Here's where it gets REALLY **SHADY** though: At first, all of my communications were with Adam’s Van Lines, but as soon as problems surfaced (like two precious items LOST! by Cita Van Lines), I found myself dealing with Moving Services Inc. (which is “apparently” a separate company but “somehow” related to Adam’s Van Lines). Moving Services kept telling me that they were not Adam’s Van Lines, but the funny thing is that most emails associated with Adam’s Van Lines are exactly moving services emails. So Adam’s Van Lines logo, affiliation, and the moving services emails are on there altogether!

Moving Services also told me that they were the ones who assigned Cita Van Lines for the job. BUT one of the agents from Cita literally texted me before the move and told me they’d been hired by Adam’s Van Lines to do the job!!

Now when I pushed for compensation for the lost items with Cita, they did not respond. Then moving services stepped in to offer me a pathetic $57 as a “courtesy” compensation and told me that if I signed the compensation form, I couldn’t write reviews or file complaints anywhere about both Adam’s and Cita Van Lines!!! On top of that, they claimed Moving Services was the one handling it, even though all previous communication and billing had Adam’s Van Lines all over it!!! It’s clear they (Adam’s Van Lines) were trying to dodge responsibility and avoid compensating me fairly by just passing me around and shifting blame between companies!

And oh my god, this moving services sort of affiliate, doesn’t even have any websites, and when they email you "themselves" ("not on behalf of Adam's !"), it’s not even clear who you’re communicating with. No name at all. ALSO, The address they have given me (936 SW 1st Ave. 130 Miami FL 33130) is under the OVERPASS! IT DOESN'T EVEN EXIST!

Adam’s Van Lines, along with its shady affiliate, Moving Services Team, operates in a way that’s designed to confuse, overcharge, give wrong estimates, and avoid responsibility! They hide behind multiple entities and use these tactics to scam customers. Don't even consider this "company (!)" if you don’t want them to steal from you, communicate poorly, and not take accountability even a bit!

**ADAM'S VAN LINES, EXPECT TO SEE THIS REVIEW EVERYWHERE AND BEING REPORTED TO LEGAL AND FEDERAL AGENCIES.**

Long-distance move from Jupiter, FL to Philadelphia, PA

Horrible Experience – Dishonest Pricing & Unprofessional Movers

If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience with this moving company, particularly with mover Rafael Guerra and salesman Alex Diez, was nothing short of frustrating and deceptive.

Alex Diez provided an initial estimate without ever asking for or explaining measurements. When the movers arrived, they eyeballed everything—literally measuring with their eyes and making vague comments like “big rug.” This led to wildly inaccurate guesstimates, which resulted in upcharges.

For example, my bedroom dresser was suddenly deemed “too big” upon arrival, despite being disclosed upfront. When I asked why the price jumped, I was told, “It’s a solid piece of wood,” something that was never mentioned in the estimate. To make matters worse, the legs weren’t put back on correctly after the move, and it was damaged when they stood it up.

Additionally, the estimate listed my boxes as large, but the paperwork upon arrival showed them as medium, which conveniently worked in their favor. I also added two small end tables, and a small accent chair—and somehow, my price skyrocketed by $1,100, over a third of the entire cost!

The frustration didn’t stop at pricing. Movers did not place items in the correct rooms as labeled, leaving me to do extra work. Worse, they argued about moving furniture to the second and third floors, despite this being clearly included in the estimate. Their complaints included, “I don’t want to hurt my body” and “It’s dangerous.” This was not my problem—if it was in the estimate, it should have been honored. Alex Diez confirmed that flights of stairs were included in pricing, yet the movers acted like this was a surprise.

To top it all off, customer service was non-existent. Calls were ignored, and only texts were responded to sporadically—until eventually, they stopped responding altogether.

This company is deceptive, unprofessional, and a complete headache to deal with. Between the dishonest pricing, unwilling movers, hidden fees, and lack of accountability, this was the worst moving experience I’ve ever had. Save yourself the stress and hire literally anyone else.

Well-organized

These movers were very tidy and well-organized. Before putting everything away, they even used a duster to clean everything! To prevent wires and cords from becoming tangled, they used an effective method to wrap them up. When they unloaded the truck, it was easy to see where everything belonged because they had attached small colored tags to my possessions.

Carefull

I hired this company for my elderly parents' move. They arrived with a full team, ready to work. They wrapped our furniture carefully, packed our kitchen efficiently, and handled everything with care they move went off without a hitch. This is the best moving company in USA for anyone looking for respectful, reliable service. The attention to detail and customer care was remarkable.

Use Them Again!!

These movers took great care to ensure nothing was misplaced. As they loaded and unloaded each item from the truck, they tracked it with a portable scanner. They also showed my kid a lot of consideration. I could easily access essentials like toiletries and a change of clothes as soon as I arrived at my new place because they even had a policy of loading and unloading those last.
